A boy in PINK

Hey peers!! I hope you had an outstanding time. Today I’ve come up with a short story that will broaden up your mind and will provoke you to give a new dimension to your outlook. I hope you guys enjoy reading.

It was John’s birthday coming week. He was very excited about it and asked his mom to go for shopping so that he could buy some chocolates to distribute at school, return gifts for his evening house party and new clothes.

They went to the shopping mart and purchased the chocolates and return gifts. Then they went to the clothing section, his mom asked him to select his birthday outfit and she started looking for some other stuff for herself. John was all confused but then finally his eyes got stuck on a pink shirt. He went to his mom and asked her to buy him that shirt.

“Pink is not for boys, girls wear pink. C’mon you’re my boy, choose some dark boyish color for yourself, they’ll suit you better” said John’s mom. “But I like pink so much mom, it’s my favorite color please buy me this” exclaimed John. “Stop crying like a girl, come I’ll choose something better for you” said his mom. His mother bought him a dark blue shirt which he did not like at all.

A week passed by and It was his birthday. He got ready for the school but was least excited about his new clothes. His mother dropped him to the school. As soon as he entered the school, his mood changed and he was overwhelmed with so many wishes and love. He then saw his P.T teacher, Miss Jenny. She had met up with an accident and had her left hand fractured. He was shocked to see her like this. But she was a woman with great courage. She came to school and completed all the tasks that she could. He had huge respect for her.

It was his third lecture of Physical Education. They all gathered into the ground and started practicing basketball while Miss Jenny was keeping an eye over them, to ensure their safety. While playing basketball, John fell very badly and got his knee wounded. Blood was coming out of his knee and he was crying loudly, he was in tremendous pain. Miss Jenny rushed towards him. Despite of having a fracture in her right hand, she somehow managed to lift the little boy and ran towards the medical room. The doctor gave him the necessary medication and did the dressing on his wounds.

After getting somewhat stable, he stood up and thanked Miss Jenny for the help. Miss Jenny then wished him a very happy birthday and told him that he was looking handsome. But he told her that he didn’t like his outfit as he wanted to wear that pink shirt. Miss Jenny told him that he looked handsome in every attire and asked him to stop worrying about these little things and enjoy his day. He then offered her chocolate, thanked her again and invited her to his house party in the evening.

Despite of getting hurt, John had a great time at school; he enjoyed a lot with his friends. When he returned home, he told his mom about all of what happened in the school. His mother said, “You’re my strong boy, these wounds are nothing, they won’t hurt you anymore”. They both had lunch together and then she started preparing the evening snacks for the party. He helped her in decorating the house and was eagerly waiting for the party.

All his friends came to the house and were having a great time. Suddenly, the doorbell rang and he rushed towards the door as he was expecting Miss Jenny. It was Miss Jenny on the door, John and his mom welcomed her. They made her comfortable and offered her snacks and drink.

Miss Jenny gave John a gift wrapped in a blue paper and asked john to open it as she wanted to see the expression on his face. It was the same pink shirt that John wanted. He was delighted and full of joy. He hugged Miss Jenny and thanked her for such a wonderful gift. He then rushed into his room and changed onto that pink shirt. His mom said in a witty tone, “What’s the thing with you John, your blue shirt was suiting you more than this one”. John replied, “No, Mom, even if you consider that pink is a girly color, then also I love pink. Miss Jenny is also a woman and she is a real fighter for me. Despite of having her fracture, she never runs from her responsibilities. She is my real hero”.

Miss Jenny explained to John’s mom, that “No color defines gender; it is our actions that justify humanity. Our actions put us on a pedestal without considering our gender. Color of skin or color of clothes seems so minute in front of the colors of humanity, love, and care. We need to add some more colors to our thoughts and broaden our horizons. Colors don’t define humans, but we humans define the colors. We choose our colors and we should choose the colors we like”

Her words were a little difficult to understand for John but they definitely changed the perspective of John’s mom. She was happy that her son knew could now choose his own colors.

We should choose the colors we like

We should choose the colors that are bright

We should choose the colors that shine

We should choose the colors that feel “mine”

We should choose the colors that soothe

We should choose the colors that tell the truth

We should choose the colors of humanity

For those colors will give us the sanity
